The spa industry is a wonderful study in evolution. It continues to grow, branching out in new directions. It is our challenge at American Spa to keep abreast of those changes and evolve with the industry. Medical Spa Report , our new bi-monthly publication serving the emerging medical spa market, is yet another step in our evolution.

Years ago, American Spa was launched in response to changes in the beauty market. The magazine's sister publication American Salon, the leading authority in the full-service beauty salon market (how to make your clients look good), was covering the emergence of the spa and wellness movement (how to make your clients feel good). Because it's difficult to be all things to all people, American Spa was launched to focus on the spa market while American Salon continued to serve the professional salon community.
We now find ourselves at a crossroads once again: American Spa has been covering the emergence of medical spas and results-oriented, medically based treatments and services. Microdermabrasion, chemical peels, laser hair removal, and injectables like Botox and Restylane are well-established and popular treatments that physicians and licensed medical estheticians perform every day. Spa professionals are partnering with medical professionals to create the relatively new entity called the medical spa.
The Medical Spa Report, the newest member of our publishing family, is the next phase of our evolution as an information provider. Launched originally as a supplement to American Spa in 2003, it will stand on its own beginning January 2005 and has been selected by the Medical Spa Society as its official publication. Our editorial mission: to serve the informational needs of the professionals who are launching medical spas, spas that are adding medically supervised services to their menus, and the physicians who are adding spa and wellness treatments to their patient services.
If you are part of this evolution, you should be receiving Medical Spa Report next year. To receive a free subscription, log on to www.medicalspareport.com .
