The Professionals Have Spoken
New magazine surveys of the "best of the best" in the spa and beauty worlds seem to be released every day. In fact, some honors, such as those doled out by Travel + Leisure and Luxury Spa Finder, have become industry bellwethers for greatness. Deservedly so, the world's most visited, most luxurious spa destinations are often honored with these prestigious travel awards. The same can be said of the top beauty brands—effective, widely used products often receive kudos. Most of these results, however, highlight the opinions of consumers or those of top magazine editors. While the consumer is obviously an integral part of the spa and beauty business, and magazine editors are indeed among the top experts in the industry, we realized that spa professionals, including buyers, estheticians, owners, and spa directors are a somewhat untapped resource with an invaluable knowledge base. So, we decided to do something about it.
This month, we are proud to present the first-annual American Spa Professional's Choice Awards (page 76), a look at the top spas, most revered industry leaders, and favorite manufacturers of products for body, hair, nails, skin, and more, per the opinions of more than 1,000 of our readers. Voters included top decision makers at cruise spas, day spas, destination spas, medical spas, and resort spas around the country. The awards were tabulated from a write-in web survey, which means the winners were nominated and selected from all of the spas, brands, and professionals our readers think are the best, not from a pre-selected list of nominees. I think this fact should give this year's winners and finalists even more pride in their accomplishments.
I would particularly like to congratulate some of the multi-category award winners and finalists, such as Aveda, Bioelements, Canyon Ranch, Dermalogica, Golden Door, Pevonia, Repêchage, the Ritz-Carlton Spas, Skinceuticals, and Willow Stream The Spas at Fairmont. They were honored more than once by their peers and should be proud of the stellar reputations they have cultivated in the industry.
This is just the beginning for the American Spa Professional's Choice Awards. We plan to bring it back next year and for many years to come. I'd love to hear what you think—what do you like about the awards, and how can we improve them moving forward?
Congratulations to all of the winners. Your excellence is appreciated, and I look forward to seeing what you do to maintain it throughout 2006. And to all of our readers, have a healthy, happy holiday season and a joyful New Year.
