Set in what is known as “America’s Hometown,” Mirbeau Inn & Spa at The Pinehills (Plymouth, MA) offers a bit of French flair with its inspired manor house and landscaped gardens. The property, whose name is loosely translated to mean reflected beauty, is the second location for the brand inspired by the paintings of French impressionist Claude Monet. The original Mirbeau (Skaneateles) is in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. The Pinehills location, considered the brand’s flagship property, is designed to resemble a private estate in the countryside near Paris.
One of the resort’s highlights is the 14,000-square-foot Spa Mirbeau. “Our spa is a truly unique place that beckons guests to incorporate some ‘me time’ into their regular routines,” says spa director Diane Scott. “While at Mirbeau, they can make an entire day out of it and utilize all of our amenities, including the resting area, fitness facilities and classes, and our outdoor Aqua Terrace and plunge pool. Afterwards, they can head upstairs and indulge in a glass of wine and a meal at one of our restaurants.”
The spa also appeals to local residents, giving them a place to meet with friends and neighbors while taking advantage of various wellness programs and fitness classes. Especially enticing is a Club Mirbeau Membership, which is available for individuals (starting at $2,500 annually), couples ($3,500 annually), and companies ($1,875 per member annually with a minimum of three participating employees). Members enjoy full access to the state-of-the-art fitness facility; motion, spinning, and yoga studios; and the spa. For founding members, there is a one-time initiation of $1,500 and for first-year members, after the founding membership has closed, the initiation fee is $3,000.
Both guests and members will find a host of tempting treatments incorporating various product lines. According to Scott, Absolute Natural was chosen for its pure ingredients, Babor for its results, Leonor Greyl for its all-natural haircare products, and Zents for its organic aromatherapy. “We looked at all aspects of the menu and aimed for appealing price points, a variety of effective treatments, and result-driven facials,” says Scott. The spa’s most popular treatment is Monet’s Favorite Fragrance (starting at $120, 50 minutes; $170, 80 minutes), an aromatherapy Swedish massage. “The essential oils we use smell absolutely amazing, and guests can choose whichever scent they would like,” says Scott. According to her, The Art of Living Massage (starting at $415, 1 hour 40 minutes), designed for couples, is a harder sale. “But those who choose it are thrilled with the experience,” says Scott. It’s not surprising considering it includes a fireside treatment, a soak in an oversized tub, and indulgent chocolate-covered strawberries.
As for the future, the plan is to continue developing the menu. “We’d like to expand our spa menu with more wellness-focused treatments and incorporate meditation,” says Scott. “We’re also looking into Thai and lomi lomi massage. Our fitness center will soon offer even more classes, including those with a focus on Pilates and stretching.”
With a total of 70 staff members, the spa employs 25 massage therapists, 14 spa attendants, 10 fitness instructors, nine spa desk attendants, five estheticians, five nail technicians, and two hair stylists. It can accommodate approximately 150 clients each day. Keeping the offerings fresh is top of mind for Scott and her team. “Our biggest challenge is making sure we keep things new, unique, and exciting for our guests and members,” says Scott. “We want them to have a memorable experience each and every time they visit Mirbeau Inn & Spa, so we work hard to make it special, relaxing, and rejuvenating.”
