Enlightenment Found

Since its opening at the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain (Paradise Valley, AZ) in January 2002, The Sanctuary Spa has been treating individual spa-goers to nothing but bliss. And, for those who'd like to take a deeper journey while experiencing treatments, the spa—working in coordination with Billie Jo Hecht—also offers Satori, a "destination spa retreat." Satori is the Japanese word for "enlightenment," which is fitting considering that most participants seek rejuvenation, tranquility, and release.

The five-day, four-night $3,700 package ($2,700 off season) includes four 60-minute customized spa treatments; lodging in one of the Spa Casitas (located near the spa for easy access); meals; a session with a personal trainer; unlimited classes in the movement studio; unlimited use of spa, fitness, and tennis facilities; and more. Satori packages are scheduled, so all participants start the satori journey at the same time, allowing the group to share meals and create a sense of community. While some participants come to lose weight, others to cleanse, and others just to meet new people, Hecht, who has been leading the groups since the spa opened, says, "The Satori experience has a different meaning for each participant."—J.S.
