What factors did you consider when choosing your spa’s robes and slippers?

spa robes and slippers“We definitely considered functionality and comfort in our decision. In selecting robes and slippers for Loma de Vida Spa & Wellness (LDV) at Cantera Resort and Spa in San Antonio, TX, we decided to offer a few options. I conducted an online survey of about 500 men and women and determined that most spa-goers would prefer to wear loungewear, aka pajamas. If only robes were available, the preference would be for a colored robe, not white or cream. We chose Wrap Up by VP operational robes, which you can order in any Pantone color and at a fantastic price point. In regards to robe selection at LDV, women can choose from a short robe in sky blue or a long robe in lavender. Along with the robe selection, they can also choose to select pajamas. We selected Maggy Jams from Sita Couture in sky blue. All operational robes and pjs are available for retail purchase. The men also have a spa wardrobe section, either lounge pants and a tee shirt also from Sita, or a long grey robe from Wrap Up. We want our guests to be comfortable not only in their surroundings but also in their spa attire to allow them to truly relax and unwind in our space.”—Maggy Dunphy, director of spas & wellness, Destination Hotels (Englewood, CO)

“Borgata has provided its guests at Spa Toccare and Immersion Spa with the comfort of Yeah Baby slippers for the last several years. Our spa guests love them, because they fit well and are slip-resistant, which is especially important after a spa treatment. As a spa operator, we like the durability and ease that goes with cleaning and caring for the slippers. But the most valued aspect of our relationship with Yeah Baby is the support they provide Borgata’s two spas.”—Jennifer Aarons, director of spa operations, Spa Toccare at Borgata and Immersion Spa at The Water Club (Atlantic City)

“At Milk + Honey, the client’s experience begins the moment his or her reservation is made. We want our clients to feel completely at ease as soon as they enter our spas—robes and slippers play a large role in this. Whether clients receive a 60-minute massage or spend an entire spa day with us, we want to ensure they’re relaxed, warm, and comfortable. Monarch Cypress provides our luxurious robes, while Oka B. provides our spa sandals. And when it came to sandal choice, these are extremely durable, easy to clean, and have the least amount of ‘clapping’ when walking, which is essential for maintaining the quiet, calm nature of our spas.”—Kate Traver, procurement director and buyer, Milk + Honey (multiple locations in TX)

“When selecting a spa robe and slippers for our guests, the factors we considered were cost, quality, durability, comfort, and color. We looked into different spa vendors and requested robe and slipper samples to test for comfort and durability. Based on our research and keeping in mind our guests’ comfort, we ultimately chose Zendals for our sandals.”—Sandy Sutter, spa director, Pala Spa at Pala Casino Resort & Spa (CA)

“For robes, we look for a great look and feel—not too heavy for our day guests, as we are located in Georgia. We are also concerned with how they look after they have been laundered several times. We chose a premium luxury robe for our overnight guests, as they wear them to services, to dine in, and to lounge in. Monarch Cypress had it all: great selection, great prices, and great service. For slippers, we found that most guests do not like something in between their toes, so that was important in our decision. We also need the slippers to be comfortable and easy to clean. We went with Oka B. for our slippers and also retail them, as well as our robes, in our gift shops.”—Michelle Ufer, spa director, Spa at Chateau Elan at Chateau Elan Winery & Resort (Braselton, GA)

“When I chose the spa robes and slippers, I looked at a number of different factors. Look and feel were the most important, followed by durability and cost. We wanted a robe that feels soft, plush, and cozy and one that wouldn’t lose its feel or shape after it has been sent out to be laundered. We use Chadsworth & Haig for our spa robes and Okabashi for our spa slippers and have been very pleased with both brands.”—Kerri Stokes, director of spa & health club, Elysian Spa & Health Club at Waldorf Astoria Chicago
