Making a Splash

“Hydrotherapy treatments are the cornerstone of our menu of services. It is why they take prominence on the front of our brochure, as people look to Kohler for the latest in water experiences. We offer a feature or seasonal service several times a year in order to keep water at the forefront of our guests’ minds. We have included water treatments in our packages in the past. However, we have realized that people really want to pick and choose and oftentimes asked for a substitute, whether a totally different service or a different water treatment. The majority of our spa packages feature a 20 percent discount that can be used toward a water treatment of their choice.”—Jean Kolb, director of wellness, Kohler Waters Spa (WI)

“Our hydrotherapy offerings are built into our guests’ experience. Prior to their treatments, guests are provided one-hour complimentary access to our Termé Hydrotherapy circuit where they can relax in five sea salt baths, partake in a Japanese Furo bath, sit under a cascading waterfall massage, soak in a Roman hot tub, dip into a cold plunge pool, enjoy an invigorating Swiss jet shower, or venture into eucalyptus steam and a redwood sauna. The pampering continues with a complimentary honey mango full-body exfoliation. It’s a complete experience. We’re the only spa in the U.S. to offer such a variety of pre-massage relaxation options for our guests to enjoy. Also, we are consistently thinking of new, creative ways to keep our spa a leader in the industry, such as with our new Hawaiian sea salts used in the baths. We’ve created five sea salt baths inspired by Maui and its neighboring islands that combine freshly harvested premium sea salt with indigenous minerals, herbs, fruits, and spices to represent the personality of each island. We also find opportunities to promote the Termé Hydrotherapy circuits through resort offers, such as our Diva’s Night Out program, our Girlfriend Getaway package, and our new 20-Hands Duo Massage.”—Christina Yumul, director of public relations and marketing communications, Spa Grande at Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort (HI)

“We carefully work with guests to help them select treatments that best suit their personal needs. Our specially trained spa coordinators speak with guests prior to the beginning of their journey to create a customized experience that will exceed their expectations with results aligned to their goals. For example, a spa coordinator may recommend a Bio Aquatic Cranial treatment to a guest who suffers from restlessness and sleep deprivation, so their body becomes weightless and readjusts naturally in the water.”—Chris Bird, general manager, Mii amo, a destination spa at Enchantment Resort (Sedona, AZ)

“Our spa experience coordinators guide our guests to find services that are best suited for them, based on their life stage, lifestyle, and the results they wish to achieve. Our guests are encouraged to arrive early to take full advantage of our rejuvenating hydrotherapy spa ritual, which is clearly explained by the experience coordinators. In addition, our staff encourages guests to stay hydrated with our citrus and cucumber and mint waters while enjoying our facility and to stay cool with aromatherapy-infused cool cloths.”—Pam Ouellet, spa director, Willow Stream Spa at The Fairmont Banff Springs (Canada)

“Our spa is based upon the ancient healing powers of water—particularly hot and cold water therapy. We encourage guests to utilize our hydrotherapy circuit, which includes our mineral Roman baths, as a means to detoxify, relax, and/or invigorate the body before their treatments. Additionally, we offer a series of hydrotherapy treatments as an upgrade to any treatment.”—Shannon Stringert, manager of Qua Baths & Spa (Las Vegas)

“We promote our hydrotherapy program with strong strategic marketing, which includes advertising, photos that capture the essence of hydrotherapy, a great PR company, and explanatory materials. We use print, our website, email, and electronic advertising together to communicate our benefits.”—Sandra Hachinohe, spa director, Tabacón Grand Spa Thermal Resort (Costa Rica)

“We offer our guests a unique hydrotherapy experience called The Rainforest. It combines the best of European spa and hydrothermal therapy with the essence of Asian wellness philosophies to create a romantic haven of serenity, warmth, and comfort. The Rainforest features eight different hydrothermal therapy experiences for our guests to embark on. We have designed it as a full circuit, comprising alternating hot and cold thermal cabins with each thermal cabin designed to accommodate up to one couple at each time, preserving exclusive privacy. We recommend The Rainforest to our guests as the perfect way to unwind before one of our soothing body treatments, or as a way to extend relaxation following a treatment.”—Walailuck Kongsawat, spa manager, Banyan Tree Spa Mayakoba at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba (Mexico)
