According to a survey by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), it is now common practice for brides-to-be to receive medical spa treatments before walking down the aisle. “Essentially weekly, I see patients who request aesthetic ‘help’ before an upcoming social event. For example, brides and other members of a wedding party have frequently scheduled appointments at the same time. Fillers and neuromodulators can provide some very nice touchups,” says Fred G. Fedok, M.D., president of the AAFPRS. These women are not just asking for injectables. Fifty-two percent of plastic surgeons say chemical peels were in high demand last year. Fedok notes that brides should be made aware of potential risks before receiving any treatment, and the procedures should be completed well in advance of the wedding date to allow time for possible swelling and bruising to heal.
