Indoor Tanning Bed Use Declines

The latest statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Preventation show fewer people are using tanning beds. Only 4.2 percent of American adults used tanning beds in 2013, down from 5.5 percent in 2010, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Most significant in these findings, published in a report in JAMA Dermatology, was the number of young people tanning. Just 8.6 percent of Americans ages 18 to 29 tanned indoors in 2013, down from 11.3 percent in 2010. Researchers attribute this change to increased awareness of the risks of UVA and UVB damage from indoor tanning. New laws also limit the use of tanning beds by minors.
