Cabin Fever Cure

Not far from New York City, parts of New York State were hit with feet of snow that brought everything to a halt last week. There’s no excuse to risk traveling in extreme weather, but staying homebound means cabin fever will hit sooner or later. Terese Linke, Amala’s global spa training and education director has a five-step solution to keep up your skincare routine no matter how frightful the weather outside may be.

Step 1: Body Scrub

A full body exfoliation is key to remove dead skin cells and soften skin affected by the cold winter temperatures. Place 1 to 2 tablespoons of a body polish into a small bowl and take into the shower. Rinse the body with warm water and using gentle circular movements, scrub the polish all over. Pay particular attention to dry areas—feet, hands, tops of legs, arms, elbows, and knees. Rinse with warm water.

Step 2: Body Oil

The skin is now ready to soak up some moisture. Switch to a lightweight natural body oil instead of a rich body cream so it doesn’t stick to clothing. After showering, gently pat skin dry and put a few pumps of a body oil on a soft, damp cloth. Rub the cloth all over.

Step 3: Hand Cream

Replenish and protect hands and feet from the dry, frigid air with a hand cream. For an ultra-pampering treat slip on warm cotton socks to help lock in hydration and keep toes toasty on chilly winter nights.

Step 4: Mini Facial

To keep the face luminous and smooth through harsh weather, gently exfoliate the face and neck with a gentle exfoliant. Follow with a hydrating treatment oil and an overnight moisturizing mask with rich seed oils to revitalize.

Step 5: Aromatherapy

Roll a small amount of your favorite concentrated essential oil on wrists, temples, and behind the ears. The Amala Renew Rose Concentrate features the scent of organic Turkish rose to restore a sense of balance and harmony.
