Haute Honey

September is an especially sweet time of year for many spa-worthy reasons. Among them is the celebration of National Honey Month. A natural humectant, honey has a host of benefits for skin on the face and more. Many luxury spas around the world have incorporated honey in their treatments. Guerlain Spa at the Waldorf Astoria New York took honey to the next level and installed its own beehives and is home to tens of thousands of buzzing bees. Safely away from the serene spa below, the hives are part of the rooftop garden where herbs, fruit, and vegetables are also grown for the spa and restaurants below. Popular new options for spa-goers to experience the homegrown sweet treat are the Abeille Royale Youth Facial Treatment ($295, 80 minutes), Milk, Haute Honey and Rooftop Herbs Manicure and Pedicure (60 minutes), and Urban Island Escape ($325, 80 minutes). I was invited to indulge in the tropical bliss of the Urban Island Escape, which combines coconut oil and honey in a toning body mask, a sugar glow scrub, and a moisturizing massage plus a relaxing rain shower. Tucked away in a private spa suite, it truly felt worlds away from the busy city streets, and the sweet concoctions helped smooth away dry skin and escape stress even for a little while. Spa-goers could experience the bliss of honey and the beauty power of bees with a September special on the facial and body treatment when booked together.
