Market Trends – Nutricosmetics in Spas

This past weekend I presented on the beauty and wellness connection at IECSC in Fort Lauderdale. From New York, Las Vegas and now South Florida, I have observed a growing audience of spa decision makers seeking to incorporate nutritional wellness into their spa menus.  However, the most frequent question is, how and what do I choose for my spa?

Bringing nutrition through functional foods, beverages or supplementation to your spa does not have to be a challenge for you. As long as you do your research, know your client wants/needs and ensure the products complement your spa philosophy, you are on your way to a successful launch!

When I walked the show this weekend, there are now many options you can choose from when considering nutricosmetics. Depending upon your company philosophy and level of technical services offered, bringing something as simple as a antioxidant tincture or revitalizing tea for post treatments can make your client feel energized when they leave your spa. Or as more consumers are seeking at home care regimens, coupling a nutritional beauty supplement with skin resurfacing or body/cellulite treatment may help to further support and enhance the overall effects of those treatments.  More topical skincare companies are jumping on the nutricosmetic opportunity and combining their traditional topical products with ingestible supplements too.

Nutritional wellness is no longer solely offered within the resort or wellness based spa. Nutricosmetics continue to grow within the day spa and medical aesthetics sector, and as market analysts predict, this category is expected to penetrate rapidly in the US within the next five years.

Looking forward to seeing what 2012 brings!
