Nutritional Cleansing & Hammam - The Ultimate Detox Experience!

We have seen a surge of the ancient Turkish bath houses, or Hammam, become a leading spa treatment across North American premium spas this past year.

Hammam rituals are derived from Turkish bath houses and use a combination of heat, aromatherapy, steam and mud to cleanse the skin, open up the pores and promote the body’s detoxification process.

Hammam treatments offer a number of skin and health benefits and can be a nice break from traditional body treatments and wraps. Some of the purported benefits of Hammam include:

  • Exfoliates the skin
  • Increases circulation
  • Promote detoxification
  • Helps relax the muscles and reduces tension
  • Relieves stress
  • Improves the texture and tone of the skin
  • Cleanses the skin at a deeper level than other body treatments

As a treatment alone, Hammam offers an “external” approach to draw out toxins through the skin while improving circulation throughout the body. Skin is the largest eliminative organ of the body, however, if we wanted to attain optimal detoxification benefits from Hammam, a nutritional supportive component can enhance the overall experience.

In working in the spa industry, we all know the benefits of detoxification to support optimal health. But I am often perplexed by those who may ignore the synergistic benefits of external and internal protocols to enhance the health and overall results of their treatment programs. Those spas that have encompassed this holistic philosophy, however, are often the most sought after worldwide.

I have recently had the opportunity to work with the Hammam treatment by supporting it with a nutritional supplement detoxification program. For those clients who participated in the nutritional cleansing program (along with hammam treatments,) reported a superior experience and overall enhanced results (improved skin look and feel, increased energy, mental clarity, weight loss,) over those who did not participate in the internal cleansing program.

From my perspective, this makes complete sense to me. Why wouldn’t we want to support the body internally with critical nutrients to support a healthy immune system, promote circulation and allow the body to effectively cleanse and neutralize by products through both the skin and internal eliminative organs. If done properly, this type of program can render “the ultimate detoxification experience.”
