I wasn’t always a lipstick lady, but once I embraced a pigmented lip I haven’t looked back. A new shade can do wonders—like a fresh coat of paint on walls—for brightening up a complexion and streamlining a makeup routine. We can all celebrate the power of lipstick today with National Lipstick Day. Here are some fun facts from Mintel’s July 2014 Color Cosmetics report to help boost your lip cosmetics sales in your spa:
- 87 percent of women surveyed use lip makeup (including balms, glosses, lipsticks, and more), more than any other color cosmetic category.
- Lip cosmetic users rank moisturizing and long-wearing as the most important benefits when selecting lip products.
- Older women tend to be motivated more by functional benefits such as moisturizing, while young women are interested in following trends.
- Lip cosmetics showed the strongest growth in sales, up nearly nine percent between 2012 and 2014.
Cosmetics companies are getting creative with their lipstick launches lately, as well, making the spa retail sale smooth sailing. Sothys Paris’s new makeup line included a wide range of hues in sheer and pigmented formulas with a nod to famous spots in Paris. Oh la la lipstick indeed!
