A Spa Enthusiast's Vietnam Adventure

I've long been a fan of Thailand's spa scene, but until recently, I never had an opportunity to explore spas in any of its neighboring countries. All of that changed last week when I found myself in Vietnam. While there, I was fortunate enough to experience treatments at several of its most inviting spas. At the Nam Hai (Hoi An), I spent two idyllic nights. A highlight of my visit was a Vietnamese Massage at The Spa at Nam Hai. Adding to the experience was the fact that it took place in a stunning pavilion located in a scenic lagoon. A torrential downpour just happened to coincide with my treatment, lending the perfect soundtrack. Next on my itinerary was a stay at La Residence Hotel & Spa (Hue), which is set on the banks of the Perfume River. The former residence of the French Colonial governor, this eye-catching hotel captures the style and grace of Art Deco's golden age. While there, I made sure to pay a visit to Le Spa, which proved to be another relaxing retreat. It was then on to Hanoi, where I promptly fell in love with the Sofitel Legend Metropole. Hearkening back to a previous age, the grande dame hotel proved to be a sanctuary from Hanoi's hurried and hectic streets. At Le Spa du Metropole, I opted to try the Dawn on Halong Bay, a 90-minute organic facial that I won't soon forget. Look for more on Vietnam's growing spa scene in an upcoming issue.
