What to Look For In a Safe Waxing Service

According to Malynda Vigliotti, owner of Boom Boom Brow Bar in New York City, “waxing is the fastest and most affordable way to remove hair from the root, that’s why so many prefer it over tweezing, laser, and threading. But not all waxing is created equal. Whether a fancy spa or a nail joint, there are things a consumer should look for when getting a waxing service." Be sure you are watching the following when you perform a wax at your spa.

Wax Temperature
If wax is too hot, it can burn, make sure to use a low temperature wax, like Boom Boom’s Flash Wax, a lipo-soluable (cream) wax, that’s heated at a lower temperature so it is less likely to irritate sensitive skin.

Gloves
When hair is removed at the root, an exposed follicle is left open and susceptible to infection. Make sure the esthetician wears gloves to prevent bacteria from entering the pore.

Double Dipping
NEVER! During a waxing service, every time a stick is dipped into the wax, it should be a clean new stick, period. Some double dip and claim that the temperature of the wax kills bacteria, but there’s no guarantee, so don't be a double dipper.
