Auberge Resorts, a leading resort development and management company, today demonstrated its commitment to the sustainable development and operation of its resorts with the appointment of Patrick S. Freeman as Director of Sustainable Development, a newly created position. In this role, Freeman will develop sustainable initiatives for Auberge's four existing properties, Auberge du Soleil and Calistoga Ranch in Napa Valley; Esperanza in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; and The Inn at Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina, and guide sustainable development at four additional Auberge properties currently being designed. He will be based initially in St. Kitts, where Auberge is master-planning 2,400 acres as an exclusive beach resort community on a pristine peninsula.

Freeman brings more than a decade of experience in the design and implementation of sustainable public and private sector engineering projects around the world. Most recently, he was Director of Operations for Sherwood Design Engineers, San Francisco, where he was responsible for ecological restoration, infrastructure design and planning for resort projects in Morocco, the Seychelles, St. Kitts and Mexico. Earlier positions included tenures at Manna Consultants, Oakland, Calif., where he served as manager on projects that included aspects of the Bay Bridge and the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) extension to San Francisco International Airport. He began his career as an engineer working with the Department of Defense on environmental restoration and clean-up projects in New Mexico.
A frequent speaker to audiences ranging from politicians and stakeholders to recent graduates and aspiring engineers, Freeman is an authority on water conservation, entrepreneurism, and sustainability.
Freeman received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Engineering from New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, New Mexico. He is a registered civil engineer in both California and Oregon.
