Aveda Founder Passes Away at Age 72

Horst RechelbacherHorst Rechelbacher, founder of Aveda and Intelligent Nutrients, has passed away at his Wisconsin home after battling with an illness at the age of 72. Rechelbacher, who was an Austrian immigrant, founded the Minneapolis-based company, Aveda, in 1978. He later opened a chain of Aveda Concept Salons to sell his products. In 1995, Rechelbacher started Intelligent Nutrients, an organic certified beauty company. “Horst led a life of extraordinary leadership, creating a vision of what he wanted to be, and then bringing that vision to reality,” says Dominique Conseil, Global President of Aveda. “He brought holistic beauty to the industry, connecting hair, face, and body as one. He was a life-long student who journeyed around the world gathering knowledge on the benefits of plants and Ayurveda, the ancient healing art of India. At Aveda, we are, and will be forever grateful to Horst for the Aveda passion we are honored to live everyday.”
