Dermalogica Celebrates International Day of the Girl

Empowering girls globally through education was the message behind Dermalogica’s nationwide support of the International Day of the Girl on Friday, Oct. 11. These efforts focus on Dermalogica’s social impact arm, Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship (FITE), which extends educational opportunities and business microloans to women in developing countries. FITE also helps to provide girls with the skills needed to achieve financial independence as adults by supporting education, vocational training, and leadership programs. Dermalogica co-founder and brand visionary Jane Wurwand, a member of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), attended the annual meeting in New York City and added her signature to The Girl Declaration. This document, spearheaded by the United Nations Foundation and the Nike Foundation, was presented to the United Nations on Oct. 11, which challenged the UN to recognize that more than 250 million girls and women live in poverty worldwide. In honor of International Day of the Girl, Dermalogica hosted the West Coast screening of the award-winning documentary Girl Rising, a film that tells the inspiring stories of nine girls trying to pursue their dreams in the harsh realities of poverty. The screening was presented at Dermalogica global headquarters in Carson, CA, and will be followed with additional screenings at Dermalogica offices around the world. Following the lead of participating cities worldwide, the exterior of Dermalogica headquarters was lit up in pink, to celebrate the potential of girls. “It is purely a circumstance of birth that I was, as a girl, able to pursue opportunities that are out of reach for so many girls around the world,” says Wurwand. “I am personally committed that all girls are heard, and given a hand up to truly reach their own potential.”
