Green Spa Network Introduces Sustainability Assessment Tool

The Green Spa Network (GSN) released its first Sustainability Assessment Tool (SAT) and Toolkit for the spa industry. Designed to help spas and industry resource partners measure their green progress and potential and understand the components of a more sustainable spa, the online tools are available free of charge for members of the spa industry. Available at www.greenspanetwork.org/toolkit, the SAT is an online questionnaire to assess a business’ sustainability across 15 categories, including water management, energy use, waste reduction, laundry processes, food and beverage, textiles leadership, and community connection. Upon completion, the user submits the results electronically and receives a Sustainability Scorecard, which identifies the relative strength of the company’s current sustainability practices and areas for growth and opportunity. Created as a how-to guide, the Toolkit, which is available to Green Spa Network members only, provides ideas and strategies for areas of improvement. Says Suzanne Chavez, member of the GSN sustainability leadership council and spa director at the The Spa at Loretto (Santa Fe, NM), “We were delighted to hear industry members say that in the process of simply filling out the questionnaire, they learned about simple steps they could take to focus more on green in their spa.”
