Mandara Spa Celebrates its 20th Anniversary

Mandara Spa, a multi-cultural spa experience brand, is celebrating two decades in business this year with special offers, seminars, classes, a charitable program, and a world tour led by a Balinese healer. As one of the pioneers of the tropical Asian spa experience, Mandara Spa’s journey began in 1996 in Bali where founders Thomas Gottlieb and John Pritzker discovered a true respect for the healing arts. Since its first spa opened, Mandara has grown into a global spa brand with spa locations in four continents, 22 cities, and on two cruise ships. The spa brand continues to combine both a rich knowledge and Balinese spirit of generosity with European techniques to deliver the ultimate luxury healing experience to each of its guests. “This celebration is about a dream and a dream team,” says founder Gottlieb. “A spa brand conceived in a dining room in Batu Jimbar and a global spa industry leader that nurtured it to the phenomenal concept it is today. The dream is now being celebrated. May Mandara Spa continue on its journey.”

Mandara Spa at The Magellan Sutera Resort (Kita Kinabalu, Malaysia) celebrated this milestone by offering discounted spa treatments, including a traditional Balinese Massage ($75, 80 minutes), which combines stretching, long strokes, skin rolling, and palm and thumb pressure techniques to relieve tension, improve blood flow, ease stress, and calm the mind. Part of the proceeds of this special offer were donated to the Bali Children’s Project, which is an organization dedicated to help children in Bali escape poverty through education. The spa also offered guests exclusive 20th anniversary activities, including a spa party, yoga class, Balinese dance, and a shoulder and hand massage. Mandara also launched a world tour with Balinese healer Guru Made Sumantra, who is visiting six countries in four months to introduce energy and yoga healing. The schedule includes stops in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, London, and the U.S. “Celebrations are a wellspring of life and a benchmark of longevity,” says Jeff Matthews, president and chief operating officer of Mandara Spa Asia. “Turning 20, the Mandara Spa brand is youthful, accomplished, and has staying power. Twenty has never looked better on any spa brand.”
