Five new luxury spas are scheduled to open in the Monterey and Carmel area within the next two years. The Spa at Pebble Beach, off of the historic 17-Mile Drive, introduced its signature spa in November, 1998. In spring, 1999, the Monterey Plaza Hotel will present its exclusive Mediterranean-style spa. The 10,000 square-foot spa is currently under construction on the rooftop of the landmark hotel. Monterey Bay provides a spectacular backdrop for the outdoor whirlpools and fireplace. In Carmel Valley, Robles del Rio Lodge will undergo a major remodel in the spring, which includes a state-of-the-art health spa, wellness and rejuvenation center. Formerly the Carmel Valley Inn, Bernardus Lodge is opening in May of 1999. The boutique hotel and spa will be adjacent ot the picturesque Bernadus vineyards. Carmel Valley Ranch, an acquisition of Patriot American Hospitality, anticipates completion of its Golden Door spa facility at the end of the year 2000.
