The National Coalition of Estheticians, Manufacturers/ Distributors & Associations (NCEA) was represented today by their Executive Director, Susanne S. Warfield at the Annual Conference of the National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC) being held August 26-28, 2006 in Portland, Maine. NCEA has had a presence at the NIC meetings for over 6 years, however, what was achieved today is a giant step forward for estheticians in the United States. The NCEA secured the use of the National Esthetician 2nd Tier test for use in the NCEA Esthetician Certification that will be launched early 2007.. (To review NCEA's Basic & Advanced Job Task Analysis visit www.ncea.tv/nationalstandards) 'The endorsement of the NCEA's Esthetician Certification by the National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology gives esthetician licensing boards the opportunity to recognize the NCEA Certification in their state. Once a state board votes to recognize NCEA's Certified Estheticians in their state, then other states may follow,' stated Warfield. 'The NCEA Certification is the first true certification for the skin care industry and will provide a tool to our state boards to help bolster NCEA's efforts in raising the standards of estheticians in this country.'
Rosanne Kinley, president of the National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology was delighted that the NCEA pursued a National Esthetician Certification. 'As the first esthetician to hold the position of president for NIC, this endorsement of the NCEA's Esthetician Certification was a great way to wrap-up my first term as president.'
The National Examination Committee (NEC) of NIC heard the NCEA's proposal and immediately started to think of all of the benefits that this certification would bring to further protect consumers, as well as provide more credibility to states looking into adding a 2nd-tier esthetician license. NEC's chair, Larry Walthers said, 'This is a step in the right direction as other countries want to be able to recognize estheticians trained in the United States, and this will help to bridge the gap.' 'The mobility of an esthetician to work across the country is a goal of both of our associations.'
