Christine Valmy, founder of the first skincare school licensed in the U.S., passed away earlier this week at the Cardiology Institute (Fundeni, Bucharest), aged 88. Valmy graduated from the Law School of the University of Bucharest (Romania) and received a degree in cosmetology from the Medical School in Bucharest (Romania) in 1946. Valmy, who was referred to as the Cosmetics Queen, founded The Christine Valmy International Cosmetics School (New York City) in 1966. In 1985, she was appointed by president Ronald Reagan to serve on the United States National Council on Vocational Education, in recognition of her contribution in the education field, which she served until 1991. In addition to training skincare specialists, Valmy published three books on skincare: Esthetics: The Keystone Guide to Skin Care,Christine Valmy Skin Care and Make Up Book, and The Christine Valmy Method for Scientific Facials. She is survived by her daughter Marina Valmy Dehaydu, son-in-law Peter Dehaydu, and two grandsons.
