THE THIRD ANNUAL MEDICAL SPA CONFERENCE A SUCCESS DESPITE OBSTACLES

Hosting a conference in the middle of a war is never easy, but Marian Urban, founder of the Medical Spa Conference, remains optimistic. The third bi-annual conference the second week in April, saw slower growth than the first two conferences. Nevertheless, attendees walked away better educated and with CME (continuing medical education) credits for physicians and CEU's (continuing education units)for ancillary professionals.

"We are the official conference for physicians because we have been focused on quality education since day one," says Urban. "We are the only conference on the spa side of the business that pays every speaker (a standard on the medical side) and we carefully control the speaker selection process to ensure a quality experience for our attendees."

One of the most popular speakers was Suzanne Warfield, an expert in medical aesthetics and President of PCI Journal, the medical journal for the skin care industry. Warfield covered the legal and liability issues of owning a medical spa, stating that 'because medical spas are not clearly defined and are governed by each individual state, the legalities and liabilities of medical spas are extremely gray issues.'

The next conference will be held November 2-5 2003 at Hyatt Grand Champion in Indian Wells, CA (near Palm Springs.)Confirmed keynote speakers will include Richard Foxx, MD, Dan Cosgrove, MD, Ron Rothenberg, MD, Dima Ali, MD Derrick De Silva, MD, Robert Bradford, MD, Bernard Burt, Susie Ellis, Manon Pilon, German Schleinkofor from the Sebastien Kneipp School in Germany, and SpaTrade experts Nancy Griffin and Sam Marguiles.
