Holistic Hideaway Opens in Johannesburg

Opened last November, Saxon Spa at The Saxon Hotel, Villas and Spa (Johannesburg) entices guests to take a holistic journey through the 7,500 square-foot, two level oasis of wellness. “During the conceptualization process for the new spa it was essential for me to identify the wow factors that would set us aside from our competitors and to completely develop all the unique factors of the customer journey,” says spa manager Tanya Lopes. “Making the spa uniquely memorable is paramount to growing our client base.” The Stephen Falcke-designed space is certainly memorable. Falcke incorporated healing elements of dark woods, copper, linen, and water to set the scene for relaxation. The spa features 11 treatment rooms, including one glass-enclosed couples’ suite.

Each treatment room features a locally handcrafted Himalayan salt and recycled glass chandelier, which actively purifies the air, stimulates circulation, and increases energy levels. It also houses manicure and pedicure areas, a salon, a sleep zone, an organic café and a juice bar, steam room, a heated hydro pool, a wet treatment zone, a hammam, an outdoor plunge pool, a sauna, and an outdoor treatment area. Himalayan salt is also integral to the design and therapies offered. The treatment menu is equally impressive with the goal of igniting the senses through sound, touch, and sight. The treatments feature a combination of modern and ancient techniques and incorporate LaPrairie, QMS, Elemis, Harnn, Moroccanoil, Margaret Dabbs, and OPI products.

A standout on the menu is the Saxon Himalayan Signature Journey ($97, 75 minutes), which indulges skin with a renewing Himalayan salt scrub, followed by a stress-relieving hot Granite stone and soothing, cool rose quartz massage. Says spa manager Tanya Lopes, “Staying on top of the game is paramount to our success so it’s imperative that need to always think outside the box and keep up with local and international spa trends.”
