No question about it, summer is in full swing in New York City! The forecast this week is an absolute scorcher—lots of sun, high temperatures, and most likely some sun damage too. To soothe these common post-sun problems, steer clients to simple aloe remedies like these created by Ady Toro, director of the Hyatt Regency Aruba’s ZoiA Spa.
- Restore moisture to dry hair with this homemade aloe shampoo. Mix one-fourth cup of aloe vera gel, mild liquid soap, one-fourth tablespoon of sunflower oil, and one tablespoon of glycerin together and pour into an empty bottle. Store at room temperature between uses.
- To hydrate and fight dandruff, pair this aloe conditioner with the shampoo. Combine the juice from half of a lemon, one-fourth cup of aloe vera gel, and three to five drops of your preferred essential oil and pour into an empty bottle.
- Cool off and soothe inflammation head to toe with this potent, homemade aloe lotion. Stir together one cup of aloe vera gel and one tablespoon of soy lecithin and set aside. Next, heat one-third cup of olive oil and one-third cup of beeswax on the stove top until the beeswax melts into the oil. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature and combine with the aloe vera gel and the soy lecithin then add one-fourth cup of jojoba oil or sweet almond oil before stirring well. Finally, add three to five drops of your favorite essential oil. Pour the resulting lotion into a glass container, cover tightly, and refrigerate.
