Juiced to Spa

While juice detoxes are nothing new, the way in which consumers are embracing cold-pressed juices has certainly gone mainstream. Spas have jumped on the juice bandwagon and are offering their own blends or teaming up with juice companies to provide spa-goers with a host of detoxifying beverages. “The pairing of these two items—juice and spa—is a fresh take on spa cuisine, which has been an element of spas and hotels for more than a decade,” says Shannon Mariani, spa director at The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas. “Fresh-pressed juices are a take-home remedy that go beyond the basic retail item and offer something more than a bottle of water that is typically recommended. Consider this our version of farm to spa.”

At Revive Spa + Juice Bar (Fort Meyers, FL), the on-staff juice barista is as popular as the spa’s massage therapists. The spa features a variety of juices blended on-site to boost immunity, help with a hangover, improve skin health, aid in digestion, deliver a burst of energy, and more. Other spas, like The Spring Day Spa at The Spring Resort and Day Spa (Desert Hot Springs, CA) offer juices from BluePrintCleanse as part of various cleanse packages. Cleanses involve juices delivered daily, a variety of spa treatments, and a copy of The 3-Day Cleanse (Grand Central Life & Style, 2010) by Zoe Sakoutis and Erica Huss.

Juice is certainly on the menu these days in some fashion or another. According to Rianna Riego, corporate director of brand and communication at Two Bunch Palms Spa Resort (Desert Hot Springs, CA) and founder of Global SpaVantage, the trend is being driven by savvy spa-goers who embrace the wellness lifestyle and are proactive about their health. “At Two Bunch, juicing is a class, and after every class, the instructor goes around the property bringing samplers to everyone including the maintenance people and engineers,” says Riego. “Now, even the employees have adopted juicing as a personal ritual.”

The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas recently introduced Fresh Start, three energy-focused treatments that are paired with cold-pressed, locally sourced juices ($10). The juices from Function Juicery at Press, the hotel’s indoor/outdoor lounge, deliver similar benefits as the treatments with which they’re paired. For instance, the Vitamin C Facial ($190, 50 minutes; $260, 80 minutes), an antioxidant brightening treatment, is coupled with Remedy Juice, an antioxidant-rich juice that helps recharge the body. “I think the juicing trend in spas has become popular because the two partner so well together,” says Mariani. “Spas are constantly seeking the most natural ingredients to incorporate into treatments. This desire comes from the belief that what you put in your body is as important as what you put on your body.”—
