BIOTONE and COMTA Announce New Edu-Scholarsip Fund

BIOTONE Professional Massage & Spa Therapy Products and the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA)today announced their partnership in a new Edu-Scholarship Fund. The program will provide BIOTONE-funded scholarships once a year to selected COMTA accredited schools. The scholarships then will be awarded to promising massage students who have achieved educational excellence at the mid point in their training.

BIOTONE and COMTA made the initial awards of six $500 scholarships at the COMTA reception held in conjunction with the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) Council of Schools 2007 Leadership Conference and Annual
Meeting held January 25-27 in Las Vegas. The six schools that received awards included: Cortiva Institute-Brenneke School of Massage, Seattle, Wash; Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy, Newington, Conn; Carlson College of Massage Therapy, Anamosa, Iowa; New Hampshire Institute for
Therapeutic Arts, Hudson, N.H.; Allegany College of Maryland - Therapeutic Massage Program, Cumberland, Md.; and Synergy Healing Arts Center & Massage School, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.

'There are enormous opportunities for the massage professional today as massage continues to gain in popularity and take its place as part of mainstream healthcare,' said Jean Shea, BIOTONE Founder and CEO. 'BIOTONE is very committed to supporting students and the schools to prepare for the evolving requirements these new opportunities present. Last year, we launched our Edu-Partners program to engage schools in joint marketing
efforts. We now are delighted to participate in this new award program with such a prestigious organization as COMTA. BIOTONE will continue to seek ways to strengthen our school partnerships and support massage therapy education.'

Criteria for this year's selection included a school's length of accreditation and standing. Schools were categorized in groups representing their time of accreditation - long, mid and first time - and standing. In
turn, students applying for the scholarships currently must be enrolled in a school's massage therapy program and have achieved the midway point in their curriculum. Awards are based on a student's academic performance, future massage therapist potential and leadership in community activities. Special circumstances also will be considered. All funds must be used for tuition and other school and other education related expenses.

'These scholarship awards will benefit massage therapy students who have shown promise in their studies,' said Stephen Fridley, Executive Director,COMTA. 'We are very grateful to BIOTONE for their recognition of the commitment of COMTA institutions and programs to the quality of education provided to their students.'
