Making Wrongs Right

In my first blog, I talked about a road to success based on exploring personal issues and committing to living a life of conscious leadership within the spa community.  Through personal experience, I know that it is much easier to work on what shows on the outside rather than the inside because that is what everybody sees.  A more sustaining and rewarding path, however, focuses on the inside out. A good way to start is by examining what may not be working in your life and then setting out to make your wrongs right.

The mere fact that you recognize your wrongs makes it easier to consciously act on them to make them right. By doing so, you will definitely grow on the inside. While this self-examination is as personal as the wrongs identified in the process, I would bet that in many cases, the wrongs identified have to do with the issue of honesty: honesty to oneself and honesty with others.

Recently, President Obama addressed graduates of Morehouse University on the subject of taking personal responsibility for their lives. He said of his youth: “Sometimes I wrote off my own failings as just another example of the world trying to keep a black man down. I had a tendency sometimes to make excuses for me not doing the right thing.”

Doing an honest appraisal of the inside and identifying wrongs is a vital first step to becoming the conscious leader that will inspire others and be inspired by them. I find that most people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.  Connect with the heart and the head will follow. It may sound old school, but it makes sense to follow the golden rule. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". And the key is to being with you. Honesty is clear, simple, compelling and powerful. It is a key to conscious leadership.
