Summer in Paris

Gorgeous, healthy-looking skin; pretty, au naturel eyes; groomed, but not overly done brows; and a confident, nonchalant attitude—what more could you or your clients want than that in a beauty look? We checked out the new Sothys Paris Makeup Collection, which provides the colors and tools to do just that, at its New York City launch party in the spring and got insider tips on authentic French beauty. Help clients channel their inner Parisienne and embrace effortless chic with these suggestions from makeup artist Anne Kohlhagen.

For Skin:

Don’t forget the prep. Apply moisturizer on skin and the eye area. Erase imperfections, dark circles, spots, and blemishes, with appropriate concealers. Keep your touch light, applying foundation sparingly with fingers or a foundation brush.

For Eyes:

Less is more. Achieving a non-fussy look can be tricky. Apply eyeliner and/or mascara as a subtle accent and keep lines soft. Curl lashes before applying mascara to make eyes pop.

For Lips:

Prep lips with a moisturizing lip balm and filler for a smooth canvas. Keep color choice current—summer is all about sheer pinks, corals, and plums, while nudes and classic reds take center stage for fall.
