COMTA RECOGNIZED BY DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

The Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA) has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) as a specialized accrediting agency for massage therapy and bodywork programs and institutions. COMTA is the only organization recognized by the USDE that focuses solely on education for massage therapy and bodywork professionals.

Accreditaion by the USDE ensures that 'education provided by institutions of higher education meets acceptable levels of quality.' COMTA joins other accrediting agencies for chiropractic, osteopathy and acupuncture that accredit programs related to complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).

USDE accreditation is an important step towards the expansion and credibility of CAM, and is consistent with the recommendations of the recent Washington CAM study, which emphasizes 'information and education as the keys to making intelligent, objective decisions about health care.'
