I have only run one half-marathon in my own very amateur running career, but it was an incredible fitness experience. It would have been much better with a few more massages thrown in, though. Marathoners in Boston have that extra motivation as they pounded the pavement this morning. Local spas recognized their efforts and need for serious relaxation after so much activity, and are rolling out discounts and deals through the end of the month:
Equinox (multiple locations) offers discounted sports massages through the end of April. A pre-marathon massage ($115, 50 minutes; $165, 80 minutes) is designed to help warm up muscles ahead of the race; a post-marathon massage ($115, 50 minutes; $165, 80 minutes) will help muscles recover. The spa is also giving out Boston Strong shirts when runners show their bib. www.equinox.com/spa.
Exhale Mind Body Spa (multiple locations) is offering $25 off spa therapy the entire week after the marathon for participants who bring in their race number.
Viyada Thai Spa (Boston) is treating runners' tired legs to 40 percent off all massage therapy treatments with proof of marathon participation through May 8. This special is available Monday through Thursday 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Spa Week, happening now, is also an excellent way to entice potential clients with extra discounts.
