Marathon Madness

Spas in the Big Apple are gearing up for the ING New York City Marathon with treatments in honor of the big day, whether their clientele is running in the five-borough race or cheering on the hordes from the sidewalk. For the marathoners, Dorit Baxter’s New York Day Spa recommends a Sports Massage (from $59, 30 minutes), either before the race for muscle prep or after for relaxation and recovery. The treatment uses a specialized technique that includes compressions and strokes to reenergize and reduce fatigue, working on the body’s trigger points to release lactic-acid buildup. For the fans, a “buy three, get one free” deal ($285 for four 1-hour massages, regularly $380) is available through the month of November, and it’s good for your choice of massage technique.—Maya Stanton
