Swim, Run, Spin, Retreat

To me, triathlons, especially the Ironman, are the grandaddy of races. They combine three distinct disciplines and require hardcore endurance and topnotch training to go the distance. My husband is currently training for his first, a sprint distance triathlon, this summer and I've gotten to observe what goes into preparing up close. Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain (Paradise Valley, AZ) is also recognizing triathletes' hard work in an exclusive Tri-Retreat ($2,550 per person, 3 days) concluding today. Led by gold medal Olympic swimmer Misty Hyman and world masters track cycling champion Terry Roach, a maximum of 12 participants trained for three days to improve form and efficiency and prevent injuries. It wasn't all hard work each day, though, they attended seminars, were treated to nutritious meals designed by executive chef Beau MacMillan, and specialized spa treatments designed to restore and reenergize fatigued muscles.
