If the attendance at the recent spa conference in Los Angeles is any indication, the spa industry is alive and well. Nearly 3,000 spa and medical professionals crowded The Spa & Resort and Medical Spa Expo and Conference at the L.A. Convention Center, Feb. 15-16. The inaugural even was produced by Reed Exhibitions, the world's largest organizer of business-to-business events.

On opening day, Feb. 15, world-renowned physician, teacher and author, Deepak Chopra, M.D., spoke to a standing room only crowd in a keynote session on interconnection of mind, body. The speaker line-up was first rate, but the heart of the show was the tradeshow floor. According to Al Metcalf of Bella Products, "We do 25 shows a year and I was amazed by how phenomenally successful this event was for manufacturers like us. This show was far more useful, informative and sales-oriented than the biggest spa shows. Buyers were genuine and motivated."

National and international press coverage of the event was incredible, thanks to the valiant efforts of SpaTrade expert Nancy Trent and her team at Trent and Company. News show and TV camera crews out on the expo floor conducting extended interviews with exhibitors and buyers. Heavy hitters from the consumer media featured the event., including Extra and Women's Wear Daily.
