Intercontinental Hotel Group Launches New Spa Brand

Hotel company InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is to roll out its Tea Tree wellness brand with 20 new spas planned to open within its Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza branded hotels over the next two years.

A Tea Tree spa will range between 4,306sq ft (400sq m) and 8,611sq ft (800sq m) in size and have six treatment rooms, including one twin for couples and space for foot massages.

Each Tea Tree spa will offer a simple menu with 15 treatments, supplemented by signature techniques which best represent the region, such as Thai massage in Thailand and Javanese in Indonesia.

More than half of the 20 planned spa openings will be in China. The remainder will be in the Asia-Pacific region, including spas in Malaysia, Thailand, India and Indonesia.

The group is also in the process of establishing two Chinese 'centres of excellence' in Shanghai and Beijing to train its spa staff for pre-openings and upgrade their skills to support this growth strategy.

There are currently nine Tea Tree spas in operation in Australia, greater China, Indonesia and Thailand. The next Tea Tree will open this September in Malaysia with a 6,458sq ft (600sq m) facility at the Holiday Inn Melaka.

IHG has a total of seven hotel brands which include Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo and InterContinental and boasts a portfolio of 3,700 hotels in nearly 100 countries.
