MASSAGE EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM DEPLOYED TO WTC

MASSAGE EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM is traveling to locations of recent devastation

The M.E.R.T. (Massage Emergency Response Team), in cooperation with the American Red Cross, is deploying to aid and support the vast armies of emergency personnel on the streets of New York and Washington D.C.

The M.E.R.T. teams travel to disaster areas to help restore the bodies and spirits of the emergency response personnel.

The MERT participates with other agencies such as the American Red Cross, FEMA, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the National Guard. Victims receive tremendous aid, but the rescue teams themselves receive very little support and usually just go home at night, try to sleep and deal with their stress alone. In the massage profession MERT is a group of specially trained practitioners that have been involved in disaster relief in the United States for many years giving relief to the relief workers. The massage they provide relieves the physical tension brought on by hard and long labor and helps to alleviate some of the emotional stress stored in those tired and sore body tissues.
