Massage Envy, the pioneer and national leader of affordable and convenient massage and spa services, announced today the signing of a multi-unit Regional Developer agreement with Sol Glastein for the development of 11 new centers in Pittsburgh, Western Pennsylvania and Morgantown, WV. Glastein has been a Massage Envy franchisee since 2006 and currently operates two centers in New Jersey.
Massage Envy's development throughout Pittsburgh is part of a steady and strategic plan being implemented by the brand, which includes expanding in existing markets while entering new cities across the country to help drive the growth of the world's largest system of franchised massage centers.
Glastein has more than five years of franchising experience with Massage Envy. In addition to his locations in New Jersey, he also serves as vice president of the National Franchise Advisory Board and chair of the National Franchise Advisory Board Marketing Committee on behalf of the brand.
'My passion for the company and my experience in running and operating million-dollar Massage Envy centers will certainly help me to expand Massage Envy's presence across Pittsburgh,' said Glastein. 'As a long-term Massage Envy franchisee, I pride myself on providing our guests the ability to take charge of their own health and wellness through our full range of convenient, affordable and professional spa and massage services.'
In 2010, Massage Envy experienced unprecedented growth with the opening of 43 new locations, bringing the total number of locations to more than 650 units operating in 43 states. In addition, since introducing its Massage Envy Spa® concept in late 2009, the company has opened or converted a record of more than 280 spa locations in 37 states. Despite the recession, Massage Envy has also experienced a 29 percent growth in membership, increasing from 701,000 members in 2009 to over 900,000 members in 2010.
In fact, last year, the company performed its 20 millionth massage. Net sales for franchisees have grown as well. For the 530 centers that have been open for more than 12 months as of Dec. 31, 2009, they have averaged $885,700 in annual net sales. The company also is the world's largest employer of licensed/registered massage therapists with more than 16,000 therapists providing over 250,000 massages every week.
In addition to the development agreement mentioned above, Massage Envy is seeking new and existing franchisees to expand across the country with Massage Envy Spa. To fuel this growth, the company is looking for specific franchisee candidates who have the ability and the desire to learn and follow a system that ensures value and customer satisfaction.
'Massage Envy welcomes Sol Glastein to the Pittsburgh market,' said Massage Envy CEO David Humphrey. 'As an experienced Massage Envy franchisee, he possesses a wealth of knowledge about the brand, and we are thrilled he is expanding his efforts to a new market. Our success in Pittsburgh will stem directly from Sol's passion to provide affordable and accessible massage therapy and skincare treatments for guests who recognize the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle focused on wellness.'
