Facial Rejuvenation Procedures Best Practices

You and your clients are constantly hunting for the next fountain of youth in a bottle, machine, or technique. Here is what Craig Mezrow, M.D., of the Philadelphia Cosmetic Surgery Center had to say about his favorite techniques and tools right now.

How do you help clients fight the signs of aging?

My approach to turning the clock back considers many factors.  The most important is the obvious; it’s the patient’s concerns.  Then after a complete history and examination, a discussion of whether the patient desires a combination approach of surgery and nonsurgical modalities or only desires non-invasive treatments.

What treatments are most popular with patients?

Significant non-invasive rejuvenation and patient satisfaction can be achieved when a combination of treatments are employed using multiple modalities.  The treatments may incorporate a combination of lasers, IPL, radiofrequency, and ultrasound devices to achieve aesthetic goals.  It would not be uncommon, for non-invasive facial and body procedures to be performed on the same day in conjunction with hyaluronic acid fillers, polylactic acid treatments and botulinum toxins.

How do you decided which treatment is the best option?

Every day, I evaluate patients who desire nonsurgical facial rejuvenation and request treatments that have little downtime.  Many of these patients have years of sun damaged skin in which they have sun marks (dyschromia), poor texture, wrinkles, enlarged pores, as well as skin folds and laxity.  For these individuals, one of my favorite regimens is a combination approach utilizing Syneron's ELOS plus.  Specifically, the regimen employs three ELOS plus technologies.  The dyschromia and telangectasia are treated with the IPL and biplolar RF SRA applicator.  Next, the folds and skin laxity is treated with the Sublime RF applicator and lastly the Sublative fractional RF applicator is used to improve texture, wrinkles and reduce enlarged pores.  We use only topical anesthetic and the patients resume their daily activities.  Depending on individual patient goals, we perform a series of two or three of the aforementioned regimen every 4-6 weeks.

I have been employing combination ELOS treatments for many years with great success.  The patients are extremely satisfied because the color, texture and tone of their skin is improved.  The results are long lasting because their is collagen remodeling.
