In the Spotlight

In the last few years there have been a significant increase in devices relying on LED technology. Thanks to the power of specific light spectrums, these convenient gadgets can treat a a wide range of skincare concerns, including acne, wrinkles, unevne tone, and more. One company capitalizing on the LED technology is reVive Light Therapy, and we talked to Lloyd Nelson, CEO and president at LED Technologies to learn more about the latest innovations and uses in medical spas.

Who is the ideal client for the panel? Who can most benefit from its use?

The reVive Light Therapy Professional Panel system was designed specifically to bring the professional experience home.  This system is designed to allow the Skincare Professional to extend their current skincare regimen into their clients home.  The primary consumer or user would be anyone that is interested in rejuvenating their skin resulting in a more youthful and radiant appearance and those that suffer from chronic or casual acne or other bacteria related skin conditions.  The reVive Light Therapy Professional Panel system is a simple and effective way to extend professional skincare treatment into a daily routine in the home.

Is there anyone who should not use such a device or LED technology?

reVive Light Therapy is FDA approved for over the counter or in-home use due to the complete safety of the device and no negative side effects.  As with any device we do provide some precautions and simply ask the user to consult with their physician prior to engaging in this or any light therapy treatment.  These precautions are related to individuals that are or suspect they might be pregnant, individuals with suspicious or cancerous lesions and individuals that have light sensitive skin or are on medications that create light sensitivity.  We recommend that a person consult with their physician if there are any questions or concerns regarding their use of this product.

What in-spa services does it enhance? How can it help improve business, not take it away from the medical spa?

The reVive Light Therapy professional panel is designed to enable the consumer to extend their professional skincare services into their home.  This device will allow the professional to extend their treatments outside of the office visit into the daily regimen of the client.  This will only enhance the overall results the professional is trying to attain with the individual client.  reVive Light Therapy is only one aspect of the overall skincare treatment that a professional would recommend to a client and does not replace those treatments but augments them so as to deliver the highest level of results to the client thus increasing the trust factor and personal recommendations of the Professional.  reVive Light Therapy does not replace a facials, skin peel or the use of topicals per say.  This device will actually help those treatments reach their maximum effectiveness.  Independent medical studies show that topicals used in conjunction with Light therapy are absorbed by the cells three to 12 times more than without light therapy. Increased absorption varies by type of ingredients with Copper and Green Tea Extract achieving the highest levels of increase absorption.

What are the primary benefits of each type of LED light?

Each light spectrum has a specific correlative effect on certain cellular structures of the skin.  I have outlined the four spectrums that we deploy with our professional panel system here:

Non-UV Blue Light has been proven to have powerful anti-bacterial properties that have the ability to kill acne-causing bacteria.  It prevents and treats mild to moderate acne. Blue light also helps to purify the skin, stabilize oil glands, and soothe inflammation.

Powerful infrared (IR) light, which is invisible to the naked eye, penetrates deeper than any other color in the spectrum. IR light combats the signs of aging, replenishes dermal and epidermal cells, stimulates the natural production of collagen and elastin while  speeding up the healing process. It is used to de-age the skin and accelerate the healing of wounds, cuts, and damage such as burns and bruising.

Red light has the ability to reach deep layers of the skin rejuvenating and prompting cellular repair, and increasing circulation promoting a more vibrant and youthful complexion. Red and IR LED lights work synergistically to deliver optimal skin rejuvenation.

Amber light helps to revitalize the skin. It has been shown to bring vitality to dull and lifeless complexions. Amber light is good for bringing a glow to the skin for special occasions and reduces the appearance of redness, swelling, and inflammation. This color of light is beneficial for rosacea and treating burns such as sunburns

What if any benefits/results are improved with the use of the colors simultaneously?

The device is designed to deliver specific spectrum for specific effects.  Each spectrum is mapped to a specific effect within the body and no two lights deliver more than a single spectrum.  Unlike other Light Therapy devices that allow a light to transition from one spectrum to another, reVive Light Therapy employs dedicated spectrum lights to ensure that the correct energy levels for each spectrum are being delivered to the correct cellular structure within the skin.  That said, the strength and effectiveness of each light is not compromised by delivering multiple lights simultaneously.  The benefit of this design is in the reduced amount of time it takes to receive multiple treatments.

How has LED technology changed/improved in the last few years?

Light Therapy is technology based skincare at its core and like all technology there are rapid enhancements taking place.  The most recent comes in the form of professional grade lights and energy delivery without any health or safety risk to the consumer.  This advancement allows for reVive Light Therapy to be used by the client in their home without the risk of health or safety concerns.

The second area that we focus on is lifestyle designs.  We are constantly enhancing our products to deliver not only the highest levels of efficacy but also match our users active lifestyle and deliver the most effective and convenient treatments we can, making our products and corresponding treatments simple, convenient and effective, enabling us to integrate into our users daily activity without much change.

What's next for this technology in office and for at-home use?

We are constantly looking for ways to enhance our device effectiveness along with enhanced features and benefits to the customer.  We want people to look forward to their treatment time as a time to not only enhance their skin but a time to enjoy and relax.  We are exploring options like embedding audio ports and Bluetooth into our panels to allow users to experience relaxing moments in time while they perform their skincare treatment.  We are also looking at multiple attachments that will work with our systems to allow the user to experience their treatments in ways that are more convenient or relaxing at home.  Attachments like flexible stands or headboard attachments to allow a user to lay in bed and treat themselves “hands free” are great examples of where we are looking to go with this product.
