Celebrities from Hollywood and beyond gathered in New York City yesterday for what some call one of the biggest nights in fashion—The Met Gala. Stars were decked from head-to-toe in their campiest looks—an ode to the over-exaggerated, flamboyant, and theatrical. Not a detail was out of place, including the nails. Check out how these three celebs donned Essie manicures to take their looks over-the-top.
Actress: Lucy Boynton
Colors: Here to Stay Base Coat, Press Pause, Set in Stones, Gel.Setter
About the Look: “Lucy’s look tonight is so angelic,” says Elle. “We chose Essie’s Press Pause to play off her delicate Prada dress. Then, Essie in Set in Stones, along with Swarovski crystals added a touch of whimsical drama. Think: Lucy in the sky with diamonds!”
- Apply Essie’s Here to Stay Base Coat
- Once dry, apply Essie’s Press Pause, a soft gray with a cloudy tint. Once dry, follow up with a second coat on each finger except the ring finger.
- On the ring fingers, apply Essie’s Set in Stones once the first layer of Press Pause is dry.
- Once all nails are dry, accent each nail with Swarovski crystal designs.
- Seal the look with an application of Gel.Setter top coat.
Actress: Elle Fanning
Manicurist: Mar y Sol Inzerillo
Colors: Smooth-E Base Coat, Strike a Rose (available May 2019)
About the Look: “Elle is the definition of camp,” says Inzerillo. “She wanted an expressive, bold look and we went for it! We started with Essie’s Strike a Rose, a neon hot pink with a demi-matte finish, from the new summer 2019 collection. Then, each almond-shaped nail was pierced and adorned with fun vintage charms, from french fries to Bubble Yum, and more. The end result was a show-stopping moment on the Pink Carpet,”
Actress: Rachel Brosnahan
Manicurist: Elisa Wishan
Colors: Here to Stay Base Coat, Licorice, Gel.Setter
About the Look: “Rachel wore a stunning gown by Erdem,” says Wishan. “To balance the femininity of her pink, floral look, we chose Essie’s jet-black Licorice to add some edge while simultaneously matching the black bow details. The end result was chic, cool, camp!”
