There’s a new spa that’s filled with rich history coming to Hudson Valley. Slated to open in January 2020, The Abbey Inn & Spa is located on top of the historic Fort Hill. The Inn will be a boutique hotel with 42 guest rooms and amenities like a Mediterranean restaurant, spa and fitness center, and meeting and event space. “Inspired by the bounty of the Hudson Valley, we’re proud to incorporate local elements of the surrounding area into all of our offerings at The Abbey Inn & Spa,” says Gilbert Baeriswil, General Manager at The Abbey Inn & Spa.

The existing historic building was formerly the convent of the Episcopal Sisters of Saint Mary's and will now be repurposed with luxury accommodations. With a $22 million renovation budget, the design will be contemporary with preserved granite and bricks from the former convent.

The Abbey Inn Spa (Peekskill, NY) will be a sanctuary for guests where they can embrace the nature of the region. Spa-goers can enjoy a variety of offerings, including an intimate relaxation lounge, single or couples' massages, a nail and hair salon, whirlpool and sauna. . “With only four treatment rooms, each guest will receive an intimate and rejuvenating experience—good for the body and soul,” Baeriswil says. In addition, guests can also enjoy access to an on-site fitness center featuring cardio equipment and more, designed in keeping with the original architecture.

The convent was in use from 1872 to 1963 and is said to be the oldest Episcopal religious community in the U.S. The hotel adjoins 65-wooded acres of Fort Hill Park, scene of a historic three-day Revolutionary War battle in the late 1700s. Now, the land can still be discovered through its many trails that overlook the Hudson River.

With the rich history and nature-filled landscape the Abbey Inn & Spa, the surrounding community is also abundant recreational opportunities for both the adventurous and those seeking recluse, including hiking trails, kayaking, rock climbing, golf, and more.
