Sallie Fraenkel, president of Mind Body Spirit Network, and Casey Miller, president of Travelteerism, have formed an innovative partnership to create wellness experiences that enhance travelers’ connections to themselves and to people in the countries they visit. The inaugural 2016 journeys, “A Mayan Touch” to Guatemala (Jan. 15-20) and “Barefoot Luxury” to Nicaragua (March 31-Apr. 5), introduce visitors to the scenic beauty and centuries-old healing traditions of Central America. Later in the year, tours to Central Mexico and Belize are also on the schedule. Groups of no more than twelve on each tour can look forward to carefully curated experiences ranging from luxury spa treatments and shaman cleansing-and-healing rituals to volunteering at an indigenous school that uses recycled materials to make sustainable school rooms. Itineraries include the rare opportunity to hike active volcanos, walk through historic quaint villages, sit at the tables of up-and-coming chefs, and connect with and understand the socio-economic issues of the countries that they visit.
Itineraries focus on opportunities to enhance wellness of the mind, body and spirit. Daily activities include choices for every passion, from outdoor adventure lovers to shoppers looking for indigenous antiques or handmade crafts. Stays at small posadas provide a unique sense of place and local culture. Meals at local restaurants feature healthful menus of locally grown foods. Chocolate and wine tastings offer delicious and intoxicating rewards for a road well-traveled. A luxury van transports guests to the various locales.
Fraenkel, who has over a decade of experience as a senior executive in the global spa/wellness industry, is a recognized expert on finding paths to wellness. Miller, a Harvard-educated professional boutique tour operator with a background in NGO and non-profit management, describes the mission of Travelteerism as a chance “to see the world and serve it too.” Working together, their new venture marries wellness of mind, body, spirit, and community.
