Wellness for Cancer is continuing its mission of giving back to those suffering from cancer, this time specifically to people within the spa industry. The charity has just announced the Give Back to Our Own program, a fund designed exclusively to send spa and wellness processionals living with cancer to retreats in order to reconnect and heal. The #SpasPushingLimits group, a network of spa industry professionals who participate in athletic events to give back to charity, has named Give Back to Our Own its cause for 2018.
“Our mission at Wellness for Cancer has always been to empower spa and wellness professionals around the globe to better care for clients and guests touched by cancer without focusing exclusively on cancer,” says Julie Bach, executive director of Wellness for Cancer. “Today, with the establishment of the ‘Give Back to Our Own’ Program, and our inaugural partnership with #SpasPushingLimits, we are fulfilling the dream to gift spa and wellness professionals touched by cancer with the same kind of love and nurturing treatments that they are used to providing others every day.”
#SpasPushingLimits, which was founded in 2017 by Monica Helmstetter, director of events at Spatec North America, is a group of spa professionals who participate in moderate to difficult fitness events while raising funds for varies non-profit organizations and charities. In 2017, the group participated in the Half Ironman in Victoria, British Columbia while raising funds for the Eminence Kids Foundation and hiked Red Rock Canyon while raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Throughout the year, the group had over 50 spa professionals participate and raised close to $20,000. This year, the group will be participating in the Half Ironman triathlon in Boulder, CO, on August 4, while raising funds for Wellness for Cancer’s Give Back to Our Own initiative.
“We are thrilled to partner with Wellness for Cancer to positively impact the lives of those who treat so many, to ultimately better treat themselves,” says Helmstetter. “Together, we will raise funds and look forward to competing in their honor.”
Mia Kyricos, president and founder of Kyricos & Associates, is the strategic advisor for Wellness for Cancer. As a successful spa and wellness leader, Kyricos helped Helmstetter and bach establish the Give Back to Our Own program.
