Take Your Om Outdoors This Winter with Snowga

Just because temperatures are dropping and winter is in full swing doesn’t mean we have to stay indoors and become sedentary. In fact, if one of your New Year’s resolutions was to get in shape this year, heading outside this season might just give you the inspiration you need to get fit. Enter: snowga. Snowga, aka practicing yoga in the snow, has become a popular activity amongst many winter getaway destinations.

Triple Creek Ranch (Darby, MT) offers both indoor and outdoor yoga in the midst of its 27,000 acres of winter wonderland. If snowga isn’t your thing, the property also offers a host of winter wellness activities, including show-shoeing, hatchet throwing, ice fishing, cross country skiing, fat-tire biking, and skijoring, a sport where a person on skiis is pulled by a horseback rider.

Travel organizations like Soulshine Retreats and WeTravel are hosting a number of snowga inspired getaways this winter. Soulshine Retreats is offering four boutique skiing and yoga retreats in the French alps in February and March, while WeTravel is hosting its Snow n Flow Yoga Retreat in Keystone, CO, in February.

In 2018, the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole (Wyoming) introduced complementary 60-minute snowga classes for its guests. "Snow Yoga is a great practice for the mind to help maintain focus despite the surrounding elements, but we also wanted our guests to have some fun by getting outside and playing in the snow,” says spa manager Nicole Meneveau.

Wherever you head this winter, there’s likely to be plenty of opportunities to perfect your Downward Snow Dog.
