UC Irvine Extension Honors Distinguished Instructors and Advisory Committee

The University of California, Irvine Extension recently recognized course instructors and advisory committee members for their exceptional efforts in support of continuing education, students, and programs at the 16th Annual Instructor and Advisory Committee Member Appreciation Breakfast. UC Irvine Extension presented honors in three categories: the Dean’s Outstanding Service Award, the Distinguished Advisory Committee Member Award, and the Distinguished Instructor Award. “The educators honored this year have exhibited exemplary levels of excellence that deserve all of our appreciation,” says Gary W. Matkin, Ph.D and dean of Continuing Education, Distance Learning and Summer Session at UC Irvine. “The success of our students is a direct reflection of these individuals and a testament to the high caliber they hold in their respective industries.”

The Dean’s Outstanding Service Award recognizes two outstanding individuals for their contributions to UCI Extension. This year’s recipients include:

  • Susan Belenardo, Preliminary Administrative Services Credential Program, advisory committee member, and course instructor
  • Margaret Meloni, Project Management and Career Success MOOCs Program and advisory committee member

The Distinguished Advisory Committee Member Award acknowledges committee members who volunteered their time and knowledge in assisting program directors with the development of certificate programs. Each has given their expertise to improve course curriculum, providing industry insights to align the certificate programs with emerging business needs. The recipients are:

  • Kathy Miller, Paralegal Certificate Program, advisory committee member, course instructor, and inaugural board member of UCI Extension Alumni Chapter
  • Mia Kyricos, Spa and Hospitality Management Certificate Program and advisory committee member

The final category is the Distinguished Instructor Award, which honors the contributions of instructors who have helped UCI Extension remain at the forefront of continuing education and to provide students with the skills needed to advance careers in today’s rapidly changing business climate. The 10 instructors who received the awards are:

  • Paul Paquette, Project Management Certificate Program
  • Greg Philbin, Project Management Certificate Program
  • Scott Thor, Six Sigma Lean Green and Black Belt Programs
  • Michael Martin, Systems Engineering Certificate Program
  • Megan Moriarty, International Programs
  • Meg Parker, International Programs ESL and TEFL
  • Gary Szenderski, Marketing Programs
  • Kai Williamson, Paralegal Certificate Program
  • Marina Wetrosky, Reading Certificate and TESL Programs
