In my own experience with Global Wellness Day over the last few years, it's become crystal clear that the healthy goals of the single day should not be confined to that one day. That's why I'm continuing to feature the inspiring ways spas around the world helped guests incorporate wellness into their routines on June 11 and going forward. I asked spa director Yarlin Faurer for her thoughts on GWD this year and how it played out at The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa.
What can guests learn from spending GWD at The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa?
Guests will gain core-strengthening exercise tips. Some of the wonderful benefits of core strengthening are: improved posture, alleviating back pain, improved athletic performance, and improved balance. Carla Yee Sing will demonstrate different exercises that our guests can incorporate in their daily workout routine during the Core Strengthening & Stretching Class. Once people begin strengthening their core they will experience improvement, not only in the way they look but also in the way they feel.
Troy Leacock from Sunshine Health Coaching & Yoga believes that yoga is more than a stretching class and will be teaching the Yoga and Meditation Class. For Global Wellness Day, he’ll demonstrate different breathing techniques that can be practiced daily to achieve better sleep and to reduce stress. In addition, Troy will do a brief presentation on the health benefits of incorporating more plant-based whole foods in the diet, and how to tap into the psychology of change to set goals and establish healthy habits for personal wellness.
As an esthetician & massage therapist, I will share some easy but effective tips on how to take better care of your skin. We will also briefly discuss the importance of having a daily skin care routine to minimize the effects of free radicals in your skin.
With the Humane Society of Cayman Island, participants will have the opportunity to do a good deed by visiting the shelter and interacting with the unwanted animals. The interaction with the dogs will have a calming effect according to pet writer Maryann Mott from the National Geographic News. She states that studies have shown that physiological changes occur when people touch dogs: a drop in heart rate, lower blood pressure, and reduced stress.
Lastly our attendees will enjoy local organic food samples including Kombucha, courtesy of Saucha & Vivo local restaurants.
What does Global Wellness Day mean to you personally?
For me, Global Wellness Day is more than just one day of awareness. It truly represents a life style commitment to respect and honor our minds and bodies. It is a set of habits and the realization that if we love and take care of ourselves, we will take better care of the people around us. On behalf of our Hibiscus Spa team at The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort, we are thrilled and honored to participate together with our Starwood family around the globe in creating a meaningful day for our local community, and our resort guests, with the hope that “one day can change your whole life”.
GWD keeps growing with each passing year. We want to hear what it means to you and what changes you've noticed in your clients, communities, and even at your spa since GWD started.
