Yoga Day Coming in April

First Annual Kids' Yoga Day On April 8 at 11 am, the First Annual Kids' Yoga Day will take place in at least 37 states in the U.S. and 12 countries worldwide. On this day, an expected 12,000 kids will celebrate fitness by spending five minutes doing fun, kid-friendly yoga poses. Participants will also be joined by children at home and other locations, all led by more than 100 official ambassadors to raise global awareness about yoga for kids. Kids' Yoga Day was created by Teresa Anne Power, yoga practitioner and best-selling author of The ABCs of Yoga for Kids, who will also be releasing her latest book, The ABCs of Yoga for Kids: A Guide for Parents and Teachers, on that same day. Power says few people understand how powerful yoga can be and her mission is to spread the word about the benefits of yoga to as many children as possible. “Children gain significant mental and physical health benefits from practicing simple yoga postures,” says Power. “My goal is to raise global awareness of children's health and fitness through yoga, by having kids from all around the world practicing 5 minutes of yoga on the same day and at the same time.”

More than a great way to become fit, she also believes that parents who practice yoga with their children will form stronger relationships with them. Says Power, "When you both do something healthy and fun, you will get closer.”
