Meet Shane Bird, Spa Director at Wild Horse Pass Resort and Spa

How many years have you been involved in the spa industry?
12 years

What was the path that led you into the spa industry?
I graduated from the Utah College of Massage Therapy in 1996 and started my own massage business as I finished my bachelors in health and behavioral science at the University of Utah. I was asked to assist at the Utah College of Massage Therapy and eventually found myself as the Associate Director of Career Services. I had heard word that Canyon Ranch was going to open a new property in Las Vegas so I reached out and invited Diane Trieste and Jenny Helling to Salt Lake to interview potential massage therapists. Over dinner they asked if I was interested in working at the new Canyon Ranch SpaClub as a supervisor…the rest is spa history.

I have an amazing wife who is my best friend and mentor! We have 3 amazing kids (10, 8, and 5). We are very close knit and love to go on “adventures” whether it is visiting family in Maine and Utah or going ice skating in Phoenix when it is 110 degrees. We have a puppy named Daisy that our oldest daughter rescued one night from the desert. She was starved and only 6 months old when we found her…Now she is fat and sassy and a happy part of the Bird clan.
