Q&A with John Udelson, CEO of Crane & Lion

What was the path that led you into the spa industry?

I launched Crane & Lion, a fashionable fitness brand, in November of 2014.  Crane & Lion is geared toward active women who are looking for chic and comfortable workout clothing that transitions easily to everyday activities.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

Running the Boston Marathon is one of my proudest accomplishments.

What has surprised you most about working in the spa industry?

I'm surprised that many spas have a limited selection of apparel available for their customers.  However, I believe Spas are now looking to add apparel to their retail locations.  As athletic wear moves to the front of the closet the spa customers are looking for new brands and it also provides a new source or revenue to the spa.  Crane & Lion is excited to be partnering with many spa's around the country to introduce our fitness fashion line of workout gear and lifestyle pieces.

If you could work in any other profession in the world, what would you be?

It's hard to pick just one.  I'm intrigued by a lot of other professions; artists, writers, chefs, and entrepreneurs.  I think the common denominator is that I’m inspired by doing new and creative things.

How would you sum up your personal philosophy?

I've always loved this quote, which sums up my personal philosophy:

"All the peace and happiness of the whole globe, the peace and happiness of societies, the peace and happiness of family, the peace and happiness in the individual persons' life, and the peace and happiness of even the animals and so forth, all depends on having loving kindness toward each other."—Lama Zopa Rinpoche

How do you like to spend your time away from work?

I love traveling and try to take a couple trips every year.  Last year I visited China, Japan, and Iceland.
